For fly fishermen, there’s nothing quite like the exhilaration one feels during the initial stages of the dry-fly hookup with a large wild trout.
And you certainly don’t need subtitles, even though they’re provided, to gauge the level of excitement experienced by the fly fisherman in the accompanying video clip (shortened to get right to the moment.)
The clip is part of a longer video, “Nemesis” by filmmaker Vak Magasin, that follows one angler's dream pursuit of landing a personal-best trout on Russia’s Kola Peninsula.
His passionate reaction, which seems genuine, is sure to inspire smiles. It might also help viewers get a sense of what fly fishermen go through in their dream pursuits. “My legs are shaking,” the angler says at one point, while making precarious headway on the river bank.
Watch, however, as the “nemesis” escapes (10:30), then as the angler is ultimately shown with a personal best, which is revived and swims off with a great splash, inspiring another wild reaction.
“I’m happy now. I’m God damn happy!” the angler exclaims, then calms down and adds, “I actually think that think that is the coolest thing I’ve ever experienced.”

Great vid.
Having fly-fished the Katmai area of Alaska for the last 20 years…never seen anyone use dry flies when the large trout are feeding on Salmon eggs- hence the use of beads…or wooly buggers/nymphs.
My recommendation is Kulik Lodge. The later in the season, the more large trout along the Kulik…and Brown bears around the lodge!
