A tsunami warning means that a tsunami of some degree could be imminent and that widespread flooding could occur. People in these areas should seek high ground but according to some reports, people were still lingering along the coast within warning areas. The earthquake was centered about 95 miles west of the capital city of San Jose, just off Samara in the Pacific. There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries, but a very chaotic situation was still under evaluation.
Telephone service in parts of the country has been interrupted, according to reports.
