A video showing seagulls making a mess of beachgoers after being fed laxatives, as part of a prank, has received nearly 1 million views since being uploaded on July 20 by a user named baronthedivined. For some, this may serve as proof that there are practical jokers among us who are sick and twisted. But of those condemning the actions of these pranksters, how many chuckled while watching the video?
If the pranksters did, in fact, pull this feat off as portrayed in the video (without video trickery), did they cross the line between merely feeding birds and poisoning them, by lacing snacks with what appear to be heavy doses of laxatives?
Seagulls, after all, often associate humans with food and will eat just about anything tossed their way.
But that 1 million people watched the video says a lot about society and how curious people are and how easily they're entertained by the misadventures of others, as long as no real harm is inflicted.
My first reaction was that this just isn't right, but I confess that I was smiling at the same time.
