The poor rainbow runners didn't stand a chance....
A video making the Internet rounds reveals an incredible yellowfin tuna feeding frenzy that was filmed last month from aboard the TOP Cat in the Gulf of Chiriqui off Panama.
Despite the ceaseless commentary that drowned out much of the sound associated with this amazing spectacle, the video illustrates how voracious large tuna can become once they've herded bait fish into a meat ball.
You would not want to fall overboard during this phenomenon, but you definitely would want to cast a bait into the fray.
Also recently on PTO:
- FISHING: Spearfisherman cited for illegal black seabass kill
- WHALE WATCHING: Minke whales pick up the slack off Orange County, where blue whale watch is on
Thanks for posting! You'd be suprised to know that this happens on a regular basis around here in the Gulf of Chiriqui between the months of February and June. I have captured quite a few Yellowfin Tuna feeding frenys on video, including this one, and experienced many more with my clients here in Panama. Ever since the Panamanian government put regulations on the commercial fishermen a few years ago the numbers of Tuna have got better each year. Viva Panama!
