This has been a big week for a truly gargantuan snake, a Bali yellow-headed python measuring 18 feet and weighing 150 pounds, new on display at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.
Not only did the colossal reptile receive a physical exam to ensure it's in good health, it received a new name from a 9-year-old girl who prevailed in a Name That Snake contest.
Brownyn Miguel, of Daly City, chose the name Kirana, which is Balinese for beautiful ray of light. Those who have seen the colorful constrictor believe it to be a fitting moniker. To see how an 18-foot snake receives a physical, check out the video:
