Hurricane Adrian on Thursday morning became a Category 3 storm, with sustained winds of 115 mph, as it tracked to the northwest away from Mexico's Pacific coast.
This should generate lumpy seas for weekend anglers off Cabo San Lucas at Baja California's tip. But it should also generate large waves for surfing in the Cabo San Lucas and East Cape regions.
Surfline on Thursday morning was forecasting waves perhaps in excess of eight feet beginning Saturday, with the swell lasting through at least Monday.
Adrian, which on Wednesday evening became the season's first northeast Pacific hurricane, was located about 275 miles south-southwest of Zihuatanejo Corrientes on Mexico's mainland. It was expected to intensify or remain at present strength for a day or so before weakening.
It's expected to remain at hurricane strength, however, until early Sunday morning. On its current northwesterly track, Adrian is not expected to make landfall.
