The summer tuna season appears to be shaping up for Southern California-based anglers as prized bluefin are being caught in strong numbers 200-plus miles south of San Diego, with some albacore also being landed.
Fisherman's Landing early Friday afternoon reported that anglers aboard the multi-day Royal Star had boated more than 75 bluefin and were still fishing. The Shogun crew reported similar numbers.
This could mark the beginning of a northbound trek for bluefin and albacore, but it remains unclear how long it'll be until they're within range of the day and 1.5-day boats.
Terrence Berg of 976-TUNA reports that the bluefin are running 20-40 pounds, so these are high-quality fish.
Last time I checked Bluefin are on the brink of extinction. Another example of irresponsibility by not only anglers, but the blogger as well
