Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski Area in Colorado have been blowing snow on their slopes and are engaged in a friendly competition to become the first resort in the nation to open for the 2010-11 season.
Though neither has announced a date, a source close to both resorts believes one or the other will open as early as Friday, but early next week might be a safer prediction.
The accompanying video was produced by Arapahoe Basin on Wednesday and implies its opening is impending. The same can be said of Loveland, which was the first to open -- and stay open -- last season.
If memory serves, Boreal in California opened earlier, on Oct. 9, but on a temporary basis.
