Killer whales have made another appearance off Dana Point in Orange County.
As many as six orcas were encountered late Monday afternoon by passengers and crew aboard the Dana Pride out of Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale-Watching.Details are sparse but the vessel's captain said there were at least two males and one had separated from the group, which was traveling slowly to the north.
It marks the second time this month that killer whales have been seen off the Orange County coast. In early June as many as a dozen "transient" killer whales had killed at least one sea lion and were engaging in dramatic behavior -- including breaches and spy-hoping -- as passengers watched in awe.The Sum Fun was out looking for the orcas well into dusk Monday and vessels from the landing will be on orca-watch Tuesday and the remainder of the week.
