The Intrepid returned from a long-range fishing excursion into Mexico on Sunday and though the men stepped ashore with typical and largely uninteresting tales of their battles with gargantuan tuna, two women disembarked with the quotes of the day.
Valene Garrison, who was aboard with John Whitley, said of her struggle with a 180-pound yellowfin: "It was harder than childbirth. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I fought the fish for three hours. He took me around the boat five times."
Then there was Marilyn Ruschhaupt, aboard with husband Bud, who said of her fight with a slightly smaller tuna: "My knee replacement fell apart. I had to fight my fish on one leg."
Presumably, both women still had a good time. The Intrepid runs from Point Loma Sportfishing in San Diego.

I found dealing with Valene Garrison and her partner John Whitney harder than child birth myself - "It's not personal - it's just business" is what they said to me after refusing to refund me after they promised to do so on a business deal. It's great to see her have a great time at the expense of me and my family.
