In what is being called "a heinous act" of animal cruelty, a German shepherd was dragged to its death early Wednesday within Colorado National Monument, and park officials have set up a crime tip line in an attempt to find the person responsible.
Joan Anzelmo, park superintendent, reports that a person or persons entered the monument on the West Hill and dragged the animal alongside the vehicle for about two miles. The dog was found dead with a blue and silver synthetic rope around its neck by a park employee at 4:30 a.m.
Tracks in the snow indicate the dog initially was walking, then running, and then it was dragged. Park officials do not seem to think it might have been an accident. A news release states: "The employees of Colorado National Monument are sickened by this heinous act and are determined to find the person who committed this cruel crime."
The accompanying photo was posted in the hope someone might recognize the animal and provide information to investigators. Anyone with information that might help locate the vehicle or its owner is asked to call (970) 712-2798. Callers may remain anonymous.

Dog cruelty is unforgivable. My heart is full of grief. Whoever who is responsible to this crime should be dragged to death also.
