Ian Baker was walking to a college lecture last week when a fight broke out on the walkway. Fortunately, the amateur photographer was carrying a camera, and knew how to use it.
The fight was between squirrels, over whatever it was they had been eating, and Baker was quick. The result is the accompanying image, which made the Orlando Sentinel above a caption that read, "Ninja squirrels."
Baker, 18, was en route to a classroom at Florida's Seminole State University. The late-afternoon lighting was perfect. "I just started shooting," he said via email. "I didn't realize if they were in focus until I got home."
He used a Rebel T2i, in high-contrast black-and-white and in a manual-focus setting.
Wrote the Sentinel's Jacob Langston, a photojournalist: "I wish I took that photograph. I would put that photograph in my portfolio.
"Photographers like to joke about the photo Gods looking down upon us when a good photograph comes together. The photo Gods definitely smiled down on Ian."
