If you live in Southern California, you might have heard the thunder or seen bolts of lightning illuminate the night sky on Wednesday.
(That's when my friend and former L.A. Times colleague Mike Meadows captured the images that accompany this post.)
The arrival of thunderstorms is providing a pleasant -- albeit steamy -- break from the oppressive heat wave that preceded the storm. According to the Southern California Weather Authority, a thunderstorm watch remains in effect through this evening in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
Forecasters should also have included San Diego County because that's where I live and as I wrote this post, thunder was booming and the sky was darkening, and then it began to rain.
