Update: Oops! As someone suggested, a better headline would have been, 'Parenting is in the air for great blue herons at Bolsa Chica wetlands'
Just wanted to share a couple of photos of the most popular couple within Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve: a pair of great blue herons, whose treetop nest is easily viewed from a trail at the northwest end of the reserve.
You can't miss it. Just look for the bird papparazi, then follow their lenses upward to the large nest. I took the photos Sunday morning with a 300-milimeter lens and this was as close as I could get. Surprisingly absent on Sunday were the many raptors I usually see in the same general area.
Perhaps it has something to do with the season. I am not a serious birder, but do appreciate the many avian residents of this great wetlands across from Bolsa Chica State Beach.
